Jennie M. “Sacred Heart” Hargett, 71, passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2017, at her residence in Millsboro, Del. She was born to the late Donald Hitchens Sr. and Isabelle Johnson Hitchens on Aug. 22, 1945.
Hargett was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, Nanticoke Indian Association, American Legion and WOW ministry at Friendship United Methodist Church. While she had no biological children, she considered it a blessing to care for her nieces and nephews as they were growing up. Her favorite past-times were fishing, crabbing and camping. Hargett also enjoyed the many visits from her nieces and nephews, with whom she loved to share her words of wisdom.
Hargett was preceded in death by her husband, Walter T. Hargett; three sisters, Catherine M. Soil, Mildred E. Norwood and Betty A. Peacock; and a brother, Leroy J. Hitchens. She leaves to cherish her fond memories her sister and brother, Corrine L. Sammons and Donald E. Hitchens Jr., both of Millsboro, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life service was scheduled for Jan. 31, 2017, at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, Del. Internment was to follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, officiated by the Rev. Karen Mumford.
