Fred S. Burton, 71, of Harbeson, Del., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del., with his loving family by his side. He was born on Saturday, Nov. 3, 1945, in Lewes, Del., son of the late Samuel J. Burton and Amelia A. (Dutton) Burton.
Burton graduated from Rehoboth (Del.) High School in the Class of 1963. He worked his lifelong career running dredges all over the country for American Marine & Machinery Company. Every chance he could get, Burton enjoyed going hunting and fishing. He also liked watching stock car racing with his family. Burton was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Burton was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Burton, and his two sisters, Helen Nailor and Violet Simpson. He is survived by his two sons, Dan Burton and his girlfriend, Bonnie Haines, of Millsboro, Del., Jeff Burton and his wife, Shannon, of Millsboro; his daughter, Susan Thompson and her husband, Rob, of Millsboro, Del.; his six grandchildren, Tiffany Consolazio and her husband, Tom, David Burton, Heather Burton, Ty Burton, Gavin Burton and Dodd Thompson; his brother, John S. Burton and his wife, Joanne, of Lewes, Del.; his sisters Charlotte McDaniel of Rehoboth Beach, Betty Nailor and her husband, Preston, of Milford, Del., and Ellen Lynch and her husband, Richard, of Lewes; his longtime friend, Debbie Hannum; and his loving cat, Hermie.
Funeral services were scheduled for Feb. 1, 2017, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, Del. Burial was to follow, at Epworth Cemetery in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
