David J. Cullen Jr., 80, formerly of Vienna, Va., and recently of Baywood in Long Neck, Del., passed away on Feb. 6, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born Aug 22, 1936, in Pittsfield, Mass.
A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, he was an officer in the U.S. Navy for 11 years, receiving the Bronze Star in Vietnam and achieving the rank of lieutenant commander. He left the Navy to work on Capitol Hill, as press secretary to U.S. Sen. Peter Dominick of Colorado. Later, he spent 20 years as vice president of public relations at the National Federation of Independent Business in Washington, D.C. After retiring, Cullen started his own public relations firm and moved to Delaware in 2007.
Cullen is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy Hall Cullen; seven children, Caroline Meiklejohn, Nancy Cullen-Smits, David Cullen III, Christopher Cullen, Matthew Cullen, Sarah Cullen and Peter Cullen; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
