Mildred B. “Mickie” Christfield, 83, of Selbyville, Del., went home to be with her Lord and Savior and passed away on Feb. 12, 2017.
Christfield was a retired elementary school teacher of more than 40 years, having taught in Baltimore County, Md., and Sussex County, Del. She was an avid reader and longtime member of PEO.
An active member of Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church in Ocean View, Del., she sang in the choir, led home Bible studies and coordinated the Bethany Beach weekday beach ministry for years.
Christfield loved the beach and was known to participate in the Polar Plunge with the Mariner’s Bethel group. She was a graduate of the University of Delaware, in the Class of 1955, and earned her master’s-plus-60 in education at Towson University.
She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara C. Cole and her spouse, Lynn, of Hanover, Va., and Joanne C. Desien and her spouse, Nick, of Milwaukee, Wis.; five grandchildren, Raven and Ramsey Cole, and Nicholas, Christopher and Michelle Desien; brothers, Joseph Hudson and Robert Hudson; a sister, Freda Burton; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends; and the kind and loving nurses and caregivers on the Reflections unit at Brandywine Senior Living at Fenwick Island, Selbyville, Del.
The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a memorial ceremony at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, Del.
