Leon T. Wingate, 90, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017. He was born in Laurel, Del., on May 30, 1926, to the late Norman T. Wingate and Marjorie Wilkerson Wingate.
Wingate retired from Delmarva Power & Light, where he worked in sales and marketing and various other positions throughout his career. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. Wingate was a graduate of Laurel High School. He loved fishing, hunting, playing pinochle, the Philadelphia Phillies and U.D. football. He was a kind and gentle man who had a dry sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Wingate was also preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Lynn Wingate, in 1992; a brother, Vernon; and a sister, Doris. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances Moore Wingate of Millsboro, Del.; two sons, Thomas L. Wingate and his wife, Tammy, of Macungie, Pa., and Edison G. Wingate and his wife, Heidi, of Germantown, Tenn.; a sister, Naomi Lare of Laurel, Del.; four grandchildren; and his extended family members and friends.
A funeral was scheduled for Feb. 23, 2017, at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, Del., with burial at the Millsboro Cemetery.
