Lonnie E. Hopkins, 57, of Millsboro, Del., departed this life on March 14, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes, Del. He was born to Paul Clifton Hopkins and Laura Snead-Hopkins on Feb. 6, 1960.
Hopkins attended Sussex Central High School, Georgetown, Del. He was a former employee of Allen’s Poultry Plant in Harbeson, Del., and Parker Block Co. in Millsboro.
During his time of unemployment, he worked as handyman, working on cars, cutting grass and doing odd jobs around the community for anyone that needed him. His favorite pastimes were watching old TV shows, such as “The Andy Griffith Show,” “Sanford & Son,” Westerns and Joel Osteen. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandson, Noah.
Hopkins was preceded in death by his father, Paul Hopkins Sr.; his sister Janice Hopkins-Tingle; and his brother, Paul C. Hopkins Jr. Left to cherish his memories are his mother, Laura Hopkins; his partner and friend, Andrea Wright; a daughter, Yolanda Hopkins-Oney; a son, Hasan Oney; three sisters, Joan Hopkins-Melbourne and her husband, Edward, Stephanie Hopkins and her friend, Keith, Jacqueline Hopkins-Williams and her husband, Ivory; six grandchildren, Noah Oney, Zyhir Oney, Daejiahya Curtis, Ta’maya Curtis, Amirrah Curtis and Hasan Oney Jr.; and a great-grandchild, Ariyah Curtis; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service and celebration of Hopkins’ life will be held at noon on Friday, March 24, 2017, at St. John’s 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro, Del., where friends may call starting at 11 a.m. for visitation and viewing. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
