Dianne E. Custance, 76, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare, in Lewes, Del. She was born Friday, Jan. 31, 1941, in Manhattan, N.Y., daughter of the late William LeRoy Hedley and Kate Elizabeth (Bodnar) Hedley.
Custance had moved to Delaware with her husband almost 20 years ago, from New York. She enjoyed living near the beach and the time spent there making memories with her family. She was an avid book reader and also loved to read the local newspapers and magazines. She was extremely thoughtful and considerate, as she was always well-known for remembering dates and events of her family and friends.
Custance adored her grandchildren and loved to hear from them about their hopes, their dreams and their accomplishments. She had a very special bond with her only sibling, her sister, April Jordan, and her godchild, Cathy Jordan Attanasio. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Custance is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Fredric W. Custance; her daughter, Kim Coberley and her husband, Charles, of Brooklyn, Mich.; her sons, Christopher Custance and his wife, Christine, of Red Lion, Pa., and William Custance and his wife, Kristin, of Wayne, N.J.; her eight grandchildren, Katelyn, Charlotte, Emma, Daniel, Evan, Claire, Collin and Logan; her sister, April Jordan of Wingdale, N.Y.; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Custance’s life will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at St. Martha’s Episcopal Church, 117 Maplewood Street, Bethany Beach, Del., at 11:30 a.m., with a luncheon for family and friends after the service.
