Jay Wayne Bestpitch, 72, of Lewes, Del., formerly of Newark, Del., passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, March 24, 2017, at his home. He was born in Wilmington, Del., on Jan. 7, 1945, son of the late Charles Bestpitch and Anna (Cole) Bestpitch. He retired from the DuPont Company as an industrial hygiene specialist with 31 years of service.
Bestpitch loved trains of all types and had enjoyed collecting American Flyer trains since his childhood. He also enjoyed traveling and photography, especially taking pictures of lighthouses and learning the history behind them. He was a former member of East Gate Presbyterian Church in Millsboro, Del., and a member of New Life Bible Fellowship Church in Millsboro.
In addition to his parents, Bestpitch was preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth Cataldi. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Judith M. (Lamplugh) Bestpitch; a son, Marc Cygnus and his wife, Jeanne, of Illinois; two stepsons, Andrew Coulter and his wife, Christine, and Keith Coulter and his wife, wife, Natasha, all of Newark; a brother, Charles Bestpitch Jr., and his wife, Jane, of Newark; a sister, Dawn Titter and her husband, Mark, of South Carolina; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service was to be held at a later date.
