Ronald W. Benton, 63, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Bear, Del., passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del., after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis. He was born in Wilmington, Del., on Jan. 2, 1954, son of the late William R. Benton and Audrey (Richardson) Benton.
Benton proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After his discharge from the service, Benton worked as a car-hauler with Anchor Motor Freight, which eventually became Leaseway Motor Car, in Wilmington, Del., and Baltimore, Md. He was a member of Teamsters Local 326 in New Castle, Del. He was also a member of American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro.
Benton is survived by his wife of 18 years, Debra F. (Thompson) Benton; two children, Shawn Benton and his wife, Becky, and Tammy Benton and her spouse, Chrissy Hurst; two stepchildren, Corbi Bahel and her husband, James, and Eric Yates; his twin brother, Raymond Benton and his wife, Helen; a brother, Thomas Benton; a sister, Juanita Smith and her husband, Charles; seven grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.
A committal service was scheduled for May 11, 2017, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Del.
