Mildred Irene Esham, 88, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away, in the care of her family and the Delaware Hospice, at her residence on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2017. She was born in Selbyville, Del., on June 19, 1928, to the late James Shockley and Hattie Bunting Shockley.
She was a devout Christian woman who loved, and lived for, children. Esham was devoted to her family and to church, and she kept an immaculate house. She loved flowers. She was a member of the Selbyville Assembly of God.
Esham was married and widowed twice in the loss of two spouses, Russell J. Davis and Paul J. Esham. Between them, she had five children, losing two of them early in life. In addition to her parents and two spouses, she was preceded in death by two sons, Russell Davis and William Davis, and three siblings, Martin Shockley, Russell Shockley and Gary Lee Shockley. She is survived by three children, Valerie Chandler and her husband, Terry, of Millsboro, Del., Laverne Gland of Millsboro, and Barry J. and his wife, Tammy, of Dagsboro, Del.; a sister, Pricilla Butler of Millsboro; four grandchildren, Timothy Chandler, Merrill Mitchell, Jamie Esham and Brandon Esham; two great-grandchildren, Timothy Chandler Jr. and Travis Griffith; her extended family members; and many, many friends. Esham thought the world of everybody, and everybody was her friend.
A memorial service and celebration of her life were scheduled for May 18, 2017, at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, Del., with the Rev. Leroy Weymouth officiating. Interment was to follow at Beth El Tabernacle, Clarksville, Del. Condolences may be sent online at www.watsonfh.com.
