Decatur’s Baker selected to play in 2017 National Lacrosse Classic

Lily Belle Baker has been named as a 2017 Brine National High School Lacrosse All-American for the second year in a row.

The rising senior at Stephen Decatur High School in Berlin, Md., recently finished her junior campaign with the Seahawks with a 3A/2A East Regional Championship and played for the Indian River High School indoor team coached by Sherry Brannon and Andrea Baker this past winter. She will represent the state of Maryland at the National Lacrosse Classic, to be held July 18-21, at the River City Sportsplex in Richmond, Va.

Baker is verbally committed to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Hartford in Hartford, Conn., following her senior season at Decatur.

Justin’s Beach House 5K to get under way this Saturday

Registration is still open for the annual Justin’s Beach House 5K run and 2-mile walk. The event, put on by Focus Multisports, is set to take place on Saturday, May 27, in downtown Bethany Beach, to help raise funds for the Justin Jennings Foundation.

DCHS girls’ soccer caps season with 6-0 win

The Delmarva Christian High School girls’ soccer team finished out their 2017 season with a 6-0 win over Seaford on Wednesday, May 17.

The Royals were led by goals from Skylar Bennett and Hannah Czapp, and two goals each from seniors Olivia Anderson and Elizabeth Stevens on Senior Night, to cap the season with a 7-8 record.

Indian River 7, Delmarva Christian 2 (baseball)

The Indian River High School baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 7-2 win over Delmarva Christian High School on Saturday, May 20, to finish the 2017 season with a 6-12 record.

Sophomore CF Jacob Anderson doubled for the Indians, while both Wes Hobbs and Brandon Schlabach doubled for the Royals.

The Royals were 7-8 headed into their final game of the season, against Howard High School of Technology, on Wednesday, May 24, (after Coastal Point press time).

IR, DCHS, Sussex Tech golf end regular season with quad-meet

The Indian River High School, Delmarva Christian High School and Sussex Technical High School golf teams all faced off in a quad-meet to conclude the regular season, along with Seaford High School, at Sussex Pines Country Club on Thursday, May 18.

The Ravens were the low scorers on the day, with a collective 177, with the Indians posting a season-low 192, Royals finishing with a 206 and Blue Jays a 240.

Tech’s Grant LaChance was the medalist, with a 41 on the day.
