Get Well Gabby Skim-a-thon to raise funds for childhood cancer

The annual Get Well Gabby Skim-a-thon will return on Saturday, June 17, set to once again raise funds for local kids battling childhood cancer.

The event, being held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on that beach in front of Tower Road, just outside of Dewey Beach, will feature skimboarding, games, appearances by local pros from RELYance Skim Camp Dave and Tom Bracht, giveaways from Atlantic Shoals Surf Shop and a brand new board from Exile, lunch and more.

Bethany Surf Shop Skim Jam kicks off June 19

Bethany Surf Shop will kick off their first official Skim Jam of the summer on Monday, June 19, hosting the event on the beach in front of Garfield Parkway for the 16th straight year.

The event is free and open to skimmers of all ages and skill levels, giving them a chance to drop in along with local pros Bill Baxter and Colin Herlihy.

Skimmers without a board or looking for a new one are free to take a test run on boards provided by the shop, including Herlihy’s signature Toobs model, some of Baxter’s boards of choice from Catch Surf and fiberglass boards from Zap and Exile.

Atlantic Shoals and RELYance Skim Jam ready to ‘go ham’ June 20

Atlantic Shoals Surf Shop and RELYance Skim Camp are back with two weekly Skim Jam events this summer, getting things started in Fenwick Island on Tuesday, June 20, and in Bethany Beach on Thursday, June 22.

Local pros and brothers Dave and Tom Bracht of RELYance will be there to ‘go ham at the Jam’ on both nights throughout the summer, with the free event open to skimmers of all ages and skill levels.

Skimmers can test out new fiberglass boards from Exile, and bodyboard and drop-knee models from Congo, as well as getting some tips from the pros.

The event will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday nights starting June 20 and spanning through Aug. 24. The Fenwick Jam on Tuesdays will be held on the beach at the state line, while the Bethany Jam will take place on Thursdays on the beach in front of Garfield Parkway.
