Maureen Anne (Maloney) Jones, 70

On June 9, 2017, Maureen Anne (Maloney) Jones, 70, lost her two-and-a-half-year battle with leukemia. She passed peacefully at her home in Ocean View, Del., surrounded by her family.

Jones was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and grew up as an “Army brat,” living overseas in Japan and Germany, as well as at numerous Army posts across the country. She graduated from Francis C. Hammond High School in Alexandria, Va., while her father was stationed at the Pentagon. After graduation, she worked as a fashion model in the Washington, D.C., area. In 1985, she graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Baltimore, where she was elected as the president of the Accounting Club in her junior year and selected as the Outstanding Accounting Student in her senior year.

Jones began her post-graduate working career as an auditor with the accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand. In 1988, she left then-PricewaterhouseCoopers to become assistant treasurer of both the Adams Express Company and the Petroleum Resources Corporation. Her responsibilities increased quickly and steadily, culminating with her selection as chief financial officer in 2002, the first woman so selected. She retired in 2009. She was a Certified Public Accountant.

Jones also served her community as a board member of both the Essex Community College and Maryland Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. She was president of the Mad Hatter Charity Foundation and co-chair of the Dunes Classic, a golf tournament held annually to raise funds for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.
