Shirley Y. Thompson, 78, of Rehoboth Beach, Del., passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 19, 1938, in Lewes, Del., daughter of the late Joseph H. Prettyman and Ethaleene (Steele) Prettyman. She was the owner of Welcome Aboard Travel in Dover, Del.
Thompson enjoyed spending time with her children, golfing, boating and traveling. She would winter in Fort Myers, Fla., and often said, “I lived a life that most people only dreamed of.”
In addition to her parents, Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, the Hon. Robert Dodd Thompson Jr., in 2008; a son, Charles Larsen, in 1999; and a brother, Albert Jerry Prettyman. She is survived by two children, Shelley Brocklehurst of Dover, and Robert Dodd Thompson III and his wife, Susan, of Millsboro, Del.; five grandchildren, Edward “Eddie” Brocklehurst Jr., Robert Dodd Thompson IV, Jessica Larsen, Josh Larsen and Allison Rich; four great-grandchildren; three siblings, Joanne Prettyman of Lakeland, Fla., Marilyn “Marlee” Kenworthy of Rehoboth Beach, and Joseph “Jay” H. Prettyman and his wife, Patty, of Lewes, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was scheduled for June 22, 2017, at Conley’s Chapel, Lewes, Del., with interment in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions to Tunnell Cancer Center; 18947 John J. Williams Hwy.; Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
