Ed Deptula, 89, of Long Neck, Del., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning, July 2, 2017. He was born in Wilmington, Del., on March 20, 1928.
After his stint in the U.S. Army during World War II, Deptula worked at General Motors, followed by the ownership of a successful liquor store. The remainder of his business career was in sales with Rich Wilson.
Deptula adored his family. An avid boater, he enjoyed taking anyone who would visit for a full day of waterskiing, fishing or crabbing. After he gave up his boats, Deptula enjoyed the casino and a good round of golf with his friends or family. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, Del.
Deptula was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley and his wife, Stella, Henry and his wife, Teresa, and a sister, Dolores Kolakowski, and her husband, Thomas. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Frances (Ziolkowska) Deptula; his children Edward Deptula Jr. of Georgetown, Thomas and his wife, JoAnn, of Newark and Lewes, Del., James and his wife, Patti; grandchildren Jennifer, Ian, Ted, Mark, Jaime and Jessica; and great-grandchildren Carter, Katey Lee, Lucas, Justin, Trevor, Cole and Cassidy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for July 10, 2017, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, with interment and military honors at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, both Millsboro, Del. Condolences may be sent online at www.melsonfuneralservices.com.
